Chennai, May 6, 2025 – Niraivagam – Don Bosco Institute of Psychological Services, dedicated to mental health support among school community and holistic well-being of all, recently hosted a highly beneficial one-day workshop on Trauma-Informed Care at Don Bosco Niraivagam Centre, Korattur. The insightful session was expertly facilitated by resource persons from the esteemed Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF), Chennai.
The workshop aimed to equip Mental Health Workers and School Counsellors with a deeper understanding of the impact of trauma and provide practical strategies for offering sensitive and effective support to individuals they serve. Participants engaged in interactive sessions and learned key principles of Trauma-Informed Care, focusing on creating safe environments, building trust, and promoting healing.
A participant psychologist shared that “The expertise brought by the SCARF team was invaluable, and we are confident that the knowledge gained will significantly enhance the quality of care we provide.”
The collaboration between Niraivagam and SCARF underscores the commitment of both organizations to fostering best practices in caregiving. The workshop is expected to have a lasting positive impact on Niraivagam's ability to support vulnerable individuals within the community. Their resource persons effectively conveyed complex concepts in an accessible manner, ensuring participants left with practical tools and a renewed sense of purpose.
Niraivagam plans to integrate the principles of Trauma-Informed Care learned during the workshop into their ongoing programs and initiatives, further strengthening their dedication to providing compassionate and effective support.
The successful completion of the workshop was marked by a Valedictory ceremony, graced by Rev. Fr. John Christy SDB, the Provincial Councillor for Youth Pastoral Ministry. He presented certificates of participation to the attendees. His presence underscored the importance of equipping caregivers with the necessary skills to support vulnerable individuals with a Salesian Spirit guided by the values of Don Bosco.
