A Workshop on Social Science Research Methods

A workshop on Social Science Research Methods was conducted on 22nd and 23rd August 2025 at Don Bosco Citadel Campus, Kilpauk. The workshop was organized by Niraivagam – Don Bosco Psychological Society headed by Fr Ravi – Director, Niraivagam. The workshop was attended by 23 participants which included Post Graduate Students of Social Work, Research Scholars and Niraivites. The session offered hands on experience for all the participants and the response from all were unanimously positive. The workshop was designed into 2 parts. One day was devoted to understanding the nuances and the statistical techniques and the base of what exactly is being offered in this workshop. This groundwork laid the foundation and helped the participants to be aware and prepared mentally to understand what to expect from the workshop. The pre workshop questionnaire also helped the resource person to understand what are the expectations from the participants across the 2 days. 

The workshop gave clarity and hands on experience on the statistical techniques. The participants were also appreciable of the fact that they were able to have hands on experience and working independently in the statistical data provided and learning the theory in a more practical manner which enhanced the level of understanding. 

The workshop became a productive experience for all the participants and the instant usage of the methods and techniques learned in their SPSS motivated and encouraged the participants to involve themselves more and they showed great interest in exploring more statistical methods, techniques such as Correlation analysis, Hypothesis, Statistical Formulas, etc. The discussions were fruitful and the participants expressed that this workshop helped them to gain a better and new perspective about statistical analysis. 

The feedback was very welcoming with participants expressing their lack of fear about numbers, Statistics and Research in general. They also said they liked the way the workshop was designed without getting monotonous or tiresome. They also expressed that they would want to explore more in their personal front in these methods and techniques applying to their research and thesis. Overall, the workshop was handled in an interesting manner that appealed to the participants and the resource person was lauded for his professional and informative delivery of the content presented.
